For those who know me know that I live for my weekends. Come Sunday and the only decision I really want to make is whether to go out for an indulgent Sunday Brunch or a hearty Sunday Roast. And sometimes I crave both, at the same time!
Which is why the Weekend Brunch Menu at Mews of Mayfair is geared towards hungry, indecisive people like me. It offers two courses for £22, the first of which is a small brunch dish and the second course is a full blown Sunday Roast. You have the option to go bottomless for an additional £15 per person. It’s a win-win situation really.
This was my second visit to Mews of Mayfair. You can read all about my first experience here. We were back again, simply because we loved their fabulous food, wonderful service and warm ambience.
On this occasion, we got to sample two of their Signature Cocktails. I tried the Seville Orange Gin and Rose Lemonade – a light, zesty, blush pink tipple perfect for warmer temperatures. Kris had his favourite – a classic Negroni. Both drinks were stellar!
For my first course, I ordered the warm and buttery Jalapeno Corn Bread with Black Beans, Avocado and Fried Eggs. I remember last time Kris ordering this and I had a little nibble and absolutely loving it. I was glad it was still on the menu as this time I wanted it all to myself.
Kris ordered his favourite Mexican breakfast – Huevos Rancheros (Tortilla, N’duja, Eggs, Tomato). It was earthy and deeply satisfying, full of fresh herbs, a perfectly runny orange egg yolk and rich red sauce. This dish is a perfect hangover cure.
For our mains, we both ordered the Sunday Roast Beef – South Devon Beef Sirloin, Horseradish Sauce and Yorkshire Pudding. I remember last time being impressed but this time, it tasted even better. Full flavoured tender hunks of beef, glorious yorkies, lashings of thick, proper gravy and vibrant, deliciously charred greens. All were generously portioned and very tasty. Yes, this is comfort food, but refined, not stodgy.
I am a true fan of the food at Mews of Mayfair. Restaurants in Mayfair can have a pretentious vibe to them sometimes but Mews is stylish yet down-to-earth and the food is well executed.
So there you go, finally a place where you don’t have to compromise between Sunday Brunch or Sunday Roast. You can choose both and at pocket friendly prices too! You are very welcome!
