Chelsea Creperie is a casual, neighbourhood eatery that seems popular with the locals, judging by the sheer number of people stopping by to dine in or take away their homemade crêpes and gelato.
They have a range of savoury and sweet crêpes on offer. The savoury ones are made of organic buckwheat flour and the sweet ones from organic white flour. There is an all-day breakfast range of crêpes that sounded like the perfect cure for any hangovers.
In terms of drinks, they do coffee, fresh juices and smoothies as well as alcoholic beverages. We tried one of their signature Rainbow Lattes made by their barista Gwynn.
From the savoury section, we tried the Caprese (Mozzarella, Tomatoes, Black Olive, Parma Ham, Olive Oil, Rocket Salad), which was fresh, colourful and pleasing. I ploughed through the Tartiflette (Reblochon cheese, Potato, Bacon, Onions and Cream). It was salty and delicious; a perfect crêpe for a cheese lover, oozing with all that gooey Reblochon but perhaps more suited to winters.
The crêpes themselves were light but satisfying, soft in the middle but crisped-up on the edges. They are sizeable and very filling. My only complaint was the side salad which was a bit bland and underwhelming.
The star of the meal was the undoubtedly the sweet crêpe – Amazing Apple (Apple, Salted Caramel, Vanilla Gelato, Cinnamon, Whipped Cream). It was presented in the most magnificent fashion on a heart-shaped plate. On a hot summer day, this cooling crêpe with flavours of apple and salted caramel, dollop of cream and engorged with gelato ready to spill out, was just perfect.
If you work or live near Chelsea, this is a good neighbourhood joint, producing simple, unfussy crowd-pleasing crêpes. There is something for everyone here. Prices of the crêpes vary from £8 – £10, so it’s a good option for a filling lunch or a casual evening meal. The staff are young and friendly and the vibe is informal. Their gelato options are justifiably popular too for a mid-afternoon reprieve on a hot summer’s day.
