2020 and the subsequent Lockdowns 1/2/3 have reshaped our dining-in habits in a major way. Who knew we can make gourmet burgers and pizzas from scratch in our humble kitchen, have Michelin-starred meals sent to our living room and sip on enticing homemade cocktails on a Friday/Saturday night from the comfort of our sofa?

But the one thing I have missed the most is the experience of a Traditional Afternoon Tea. I don’t quite believe that one can recreate the magic at home and I wasn’t willing to eat my luxury scones off cheap Ikea plates.

But when Chesterfield Mayfair got in touch and told us about their gorgeous festive-themed Afternoon Tea that could be delivered straight to my doorstep, I was quite intrigued. Available for London delivery and collection, their newly launched Winter Wonderland Afternoon Tea came with all the festive trimmings, including:

Freshly baked Scones and Chocolate Scones

Selection of Pastries | Pistachio and Cranberry Slice; Vanilla Bavarois with Apple Jelly Snowball; Gingerbread Man Cupcake; Chocolate Yule Log; Clementine Macaron; Christmas Tree Chocolate and Coffee Pot

The pastries were not only well executed in terms of presentation but tasted every bit as divine as they looked. Out of the pastries, the chocolate pot was a real revelation. The delicious homemade scones and filled sandwiches were just the timely reminder of what some of the the finer things in life are all about. 

Most of all, what I loved about the whole experience was how they managed to transfer the magic and luxury associated with the experience of an Afternoon Tea into the humble surroundings of my home. The entire menu came in a bespoke four tiered cake stand. Everything came pre-arranged, ready to be served and devoured and all we had to do was put the kettle on (or in our case, pour a couple of cheeky glasses of fizz). For a few blissful hours, we were able to indulge in that magic and food-filled escapism in the comforts of our own home. 

The Winter Wonderland Afternoon Tea is no longer available. However, Chesterfield Mayfair have other seasonally-themed Afternoon Teas available for collection from the hotel or for delivery across London Zones 1-4.
