Faulty Towers – The Dining Experience is a completely immersive and interactive comedy show based on the characters of the iconic and world renowned 70s show, Fawlty Towers, the BBC TV series written by John Cleese and Connie Booth. The setting is inside the President Hotel, in one of their restaurants.
Using their own original scripts and plenty of improvisation, the show revolves around the three main characters – Basil, Sybil and Manuel. As their silly antics unfold over the duration of a two hour show, guests tuck into a three course lunch or dinner.
During our visit, we were served their newly launched Sunday Roast menu that includes:
Starters – Broccoli Super Green Soup
Mains – Roasted Lemon and Oregano Half Chicken or Butternut Squash and Lentil Wellington (v) with all the trimmings
Desserts – Vanilla and White Chocolate Cheesecake or Chocolate and Coconut Tart.
Knowing that most immersive shows don’t do great food at the same time, the food here was decent, delicious and well received by us and our fellow guests at the table. The actors do get involved in serving the food, so there’s a great opportunity to speak directly to the characters, get involved as an audience or a selfie.
The comedy was great with fantastic improvisation, especially when they weaved little audience details into the script within no time. They have toned down the more contentious elements for a 21st century audience whilst retaining the physical slapstick humour of the original. The cast is brilliant in channelling the look, mannerisms and energy of the original characters and are genuinely hilarious! Even if you have never seen the show before, you can’t help but get drawn into their crazy world.
With costs rising and general doom and gloom surrounding us currently, an immersive comedy show with a meal included is a great affordable option for a group activity with some light relief and escapism.
This is the perfect show for families with children, parents and grandparents spending some wholesome time together – be it during the festive season or a a special birthday celebration.
From 1st December, there will be launching a special festive menu featuring dishes such as Roasted Butternut Squash soup, Turkey Crown or Butternut Squash and Lentil Wellington with a Mushroom, Shallot, and Sage Stuffing, oven roasted Rosemary Potatoes and Root Vegetables, served with gravy, as well as pudding choices of White Chocolate and Raspberry Cheesecake, served with a Blueberry Coulis or Chocolate and Orange Brownie Cake, served with Chocolate Sauce.
